BACKGROUND
Guest Speaker at the Know Your Rights Town Hall
I was honoured to serve as a guest speaker at the Know Your Rights Town Hall, a platform designed to promote civic awareness and empower citizens with a better understanding of their rights and responsibilities.

SOLUTION
The town hall brought together lawyers, community leaders, young people, civil society actors, and other stakeholders committed to advancing active citizenship and strengthening democratic participation. It provided a valuable platform for meaningful conversations on accountability, civic engagement, and the importance of informed citizens in building a more just and inclusive society. The engagement also underscored the need for multi-stakeholder collaboration in safeguarding human rights and promoting social justice.
During my presentation, delivered under the theme, “Using Legal Education as a Tool to Achieve Justice and the Protection of Human Rights,” I highlighted the importance of legal literacy in empowering citizens to understand, claim, and defend their rights. I emphasised that access to justice extends beyond the courtroom and that informed citizens are better positioned to participate meaningfully in governance, demand accountability, and contribute to the development of more inclusive and equitable societies.
Initiatives such as the Know Your Rights Town Hall are essential to building an informed citizenry and strengthening the foundations of democracy, where justice, human dignity, and the rule of law remain central to national development.
